Are you a victim of domestic violence in your  relationship?  We can help you in dealing with the situation and safeguard your rights. The protection of everyone from domestic violence and their protection from physical, psychological, emotional, trauma and abuse are our priorities.

As well as the legal advice, we will also give you guidance on what else to do to ensure your safety like helping you find alternative accomodaton.

Response to Applications

Our experienced solicitors regularly appear for Respondents (People facing a dvo) in Court all over Queensland in person or by telephone.   Having us appear on your behalf can save you time, worry and unnecessary costs and unexplained consequences.

The system is designed around your Consenting to an Order without admissions (of wrong doing).

A DVO is not a criminal charge!
But you can lose your firearms licence and it may have other consequences like visa and residency consequences.

The Police and the Courts normally ask for standard conditions that you are to be of : 1) good behaviour; and 2) not to commit acts of domestic violence.   Worse still, is that they may ask that you leave the premises you own.   So get advice now.

Almost anything can be considered domestic violence.

You can consent to the making of a 5 year order without admissions to the reason alleged by the Police or your ex partner.

However, there are exceptions and a 2 year order can be negotiated in some circumstances.

Advice

Can't afford a lawyer to come to court for you?  It's understandable in today's economic circumstances.   But we offer 30 min - 60 min phone consultations, with email backup and instructions on what you will expect to see in Court and be better prepared to minimise your time in the Court precincts.

Court Process

Most dvos are made by your consent without admissions on the first day.

If you are disputing the making of the dvo, you will need to seek directions for trial on your first court date or asking for an adjournment to seek legal advice and come back to court at another time.

With our many locations, we can attend of your behalf at Court in person or by phone to reduce  costs.
